What remains

Every family has a shoebox. Few have a record.

Without it

  • Unlabelled shoeboxes of fading photographs
  • Gogo and Ouma’s stories, never recorded
  • Photos scattered across family WhatsApp groups and old phones
  • Nobody quite sure who married whom

With The Family Record

  • Every photograph tied to a name and a year
  • Voices preserved in their own words
  • One private home the whole family adds to—from Joburg to the diaspora
  • Children who know exactly where they come from

Started in two minutes

One keeper opens the door. The whole family brings it to life.

  1. 1

    Name your family

Create the vault and add yourself as the first branch.

  2. 2

    Invite relatives

Send a private link to parents, siblings and cousins—free for them.

  3. 3

    Watch it grow

Everyone adds faces, stories and voices. The tree fills in together.

The sanctuary promise

Private by design

Visible only to relatives you invite. Never public, never searchable by strangers.

No ads, no data selling

Your memories are not a product. We never mine them for advertising.

Kept, not held hostage

If a plan ends, your vault becomes a read-only archive—nothing is deleted.

Ubuntu: we are because they were.

Begin with one name.

Add yourself, then follow the branches outward—across provinces, oceans and generations. The history grows one remembered life at a time.
